Amy talks about how she knows that her mother does not speak the perfect english and that some consider it broken because of that. To Amy, it's clear and understandable. Some of her friends say thay cant uderstand her at all and some say they can. But Amy speaks a different english with her mom as she does with other people. She has grown up to speak this english, and learned to speak a different english to not be considered stupid or dumb.
To me, it doenst make anyone stupid or dumb. Everyone has grown up speaking english differently within their home and learned to speak it differently to others. One thing that will never change is how we will be judged. We will continued to be judged on how we communicate with others, how we write, and how we speak. We will have to learn to speak what is considered "proper" and communicate that way.

Compare and Contrast
I feel as if "The Lottery" and "The Storm" was very different storys with a same ending feeling. The feeling of sadness and pain. In "The Storm" Calixta got cought up in lust with an ex lover and her feelings got the best of her. In "The Lottery" you draw to see who gets stoned to death and dies. I would much rather get cought up in lust than being stoned to death.
I think that if under these situations something could have been done to stop them. Calexta could have chose not to cheat or let her feelings get the better of her, and someone in the crowed could have stopped them from killing the lady. I personally liked "The Lottery" better.

Beauty
Alice Walker was a girl who thought that her beauty is everything. She always had the best confidence and held her head high. When she attended church, she was called pretty and smart, so she assumed that if she always looked good they would always think she was a smart lady.
After she lost her eye sight, she couldn't deal with it anymore. She became very depressd and didn't feel like she was very pretty anymore. She also became perinoid that every one would be looking at her eye, then to notice her looks. Her brother helped her feel better after he removed the scar tissue. When she had her first child she had learned that beauty is on the inside.

Save the Animals
There is nothing I hate more than to see a suffering animal. Where I live, it is very often you see one. I dont understand at all how someone can just not feed, take care, water, or care for there pet. In my home, our dogs are like my brother and sisters. They are family. We recently adopeted our second dog and saved her. She was being eaten alive by flies, and was starving. I belive I could have counted every rib in her body. To this day she is the sweetest, lovingest dog we have ever had.
If you dont want to take care of your animals, then dont buy them, or take them to a vet and have them fixed. We took our female dog and it cost under one hundred dollars, so its not expensive (if we are talking about a dog) and it will save you the trouble of having to give puppies away or save the money of feeding them. If everyone would get there dogs fixed, there would be less stray dogs running around and more being adopted from shelters. To me when you get an animal, its like getting a baby. You have to feed it, water it, and love it. Its a big responsiblity. You should only get an amimal when you know you can meet those needs. If everyone would look at it this way, the animals would be well taken care of and not over populating.

I loved reading "The Myth of the Latin Woman: I Just Met a Girl Named Maria" because it had made me think about how much we sterotype other cultures. I loved the way Cofer gave the examples in the story. It was like flashbacks to make you realize what everyone does. She also talkes about growing up and when she was in school. It seemed kind of bizarr to not know what to wear on a "Career Day". I had never giving it much thought to think about how another culture would dress. Really opened up my eyes.
I felt as if Cofer was talking to anyone. From a young teenager to any adult. I loved that she wanted everyone to know how it is to be a competly different culture. I think she got her point across greatly and her purpose of not treating others differently because they may not do the same as you was expressed wonderfully.

Obama Care
ObamaCare. A new program where every individual has to have health insureance. How can this be fair. To me this is going against the freedom admendment. We are intiled to our freedom but if we are made to get Obama Care, how can we say we live in a free country? Although I am against this, I've learned some Pro's and Con's.
A pro is that if you didnt have health isnurance you have it now. That the health care cost will reduce majorly. If you are a non worker, and cant afford medicade, the state is required to pay for you to have it. If you need to, you will be able to put your children, up to age 26, on your health insurance. The cons is that doctors will be limited as to what they can do for their patients. If you dont have medicade because you cant afford it and for some reason you dont fit the requirements for the state, you are penallized.
To me none of this seems at all fair. I am strongly against obama care. I think people dont relize what this will do for hospitals. In my opion, obama care is not fair for anyone. I think people need to relook at what may happen to the country.

The Struggle to be an All American Girl
It would be so hard being a different culture and trying to "fit in". I liked reading "The Struggle to be an All American Girl". I like that she says she hated going to Chinese school. It seemed strange that she didnt want to learn her own language and how to write it. When I read the passage I felt as if she was talking to people from different cultures.
I also loved how detailed this passage is. I can just picture a principe swaying like a palm tree, the haywire fence, and the smell of dirty clothes. It really stunned me when she felt as if her language was an embarrisment. It kind of bothered me that her brother could talk to his mom and make fun of her the way he did. To me in the last paragraph it's as if she is saying not only is she "Chinese" but she enjoys other cultures too.
