It would be so hard being a different culture and trying to "fit in". I liked reading "The Struggle to be an All American Girl". I like that she says she hated going to Chinese school. It seemed strange that she didnt want to learn her own language and how to write it. When I read the passage I felt as if she was talking to people from different cultures.
I also loved how detailed this passage is. I can just picture a principe swaying like a palm tree, the haywire fence, and the smell of dirty clothes. It really stunned me when she felt as if her language was an embarrisment. It kind of bothered me that her brother could talk to his mom and make fun of her the way he did. To me in the last paragraph it's as if she is saying not only is she "Chinese" but she enjoys other cultures too.
